Enviromental Contributions
The Plan
Over the past year MBL have been developing a new sustainable directive that aims to manage and improve the impact of our business on the environment. We’re passionate about the future of our planet and want to make a difference in changing our industry for the better.
MBL have been working alongside Environmental Consultants, that have provided us with a baseline carbon footprint as well as a net-zero plan. This will enable MBL to work towards de-carbonising in line with global climate reduction plans and in particular PPN, IPCC and ISO 14001 targets. The consultants have explored the impact from our key consumables, such as energy, transport, and waste and have studied our supply chains and procurement to get a true reflection of our operations.
MBL’s aim is to be carbon neutral across all aspects of business by 2030, 20 years before the UK’s net-zero target. To achieve this, there are 3 ‘scopes’ that need attention. Scope 1 includes direct emissions from vehicles, plant and premises. Scope 2 comprises of electricity sourced from the national grid or generated off site. Finally, scope 3 is made up of indirect emissions associated with the consequences of the activities of the organisation but controlled by another entity outside of the business.
Progress
Delta Simons have provided us a plethora of recommendations to start us on our carbon-neutral journey as well as breaking down our targets for each scope.
We have already made a significant effort in acting on these recommendations by doing the following:
Switched energy provider for our premises to a ‘REGO’ backed renewable energy tariff
Added 2 electric vehicles to our fleet
Waste skips have been replaced with recycling bins
Using suppliers who are committed to ecological improvement
Vehicle sharing where possible
Secured new premises with Solar PV and Battery Storage, providing clean energy for electric fleet and office/warehouse
